“Footprints in the Sand”: A Different Interpretation

As I walked on the beach recently, I found myself drawn to the footprints in the sand. I thought of the poem “ Footprints in the Sand” and how the last time I had seen it was on a card from the funeral of a little boy stuck to my aunt’s fridge. I didn’t know him, but reading the poem had made me cry. I suddenly found myself on the verge of tears around throngs of people who were flying kites, sunbathing, and walking on the beach. I pushed my tears deep down, as I have learned to do over years of practice, and kept walking, considering what the footprints in the sand…
